As part of our ongoing commitment to the community and the advancement of psychiatric medicine, we implement clinical trials research studies. By conducting research, our clinicians gain valuable knowledge about investigational medications well before they are marketed to the general public. Our patients and the communities we serve gain the opportunity to participate in the research studies. Patients who decide to participate in a research study usually receive a comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis, physical exam, lab work, investigational medication and a significant level of personal attention and follow-up at no cost. Often times, there is reimbursement for travel expenses. There are special obligations for those who choose to participate in research studies. Office visits may take more time due to the nature of the research being conducted. Depending on the study, there are usually more office visits than normal as well as additional lab work and procedures. Finally, with research, it is very important that patients follow their doctor’s instructions and maintain open communications with the clinical staff. Not all patients qualify to participate in a research study. Research studies have specific criteria that determine who can participate.
